New South Wales or NSW is an Australian state situated on the east coast of the state. The bordering states include South Australia in the west, Queensland in the north, and Victoria in the south.

The Aboriginal tribes, who were the original inhabitants of New South Wales, set their feet on Australia some 40,000 to 60,000 years ago. The original inhabitants of the Illawarra area in South Sydney were known as the Wodi Wodi people. Before the European settlement, the state had around 250,000 Aboriginal people.
